Annual IEP review checklist for parents
It’s the longest meeting of the year and the one where next year gets written. Parents who arrive with the year organized, with what worked and what didn’t laid out in dates, change what gets written.
What this meeting is really about
An annual review does two jobs at once: closing this year’s books and writing next year’s plan. The trouble is the second job eats all the time if the first isn’t done quickly, and parents are often the only people in the room holding a complete picture of the year across settings, including home. This path prepares you to present that picture efficiently: what worked (protect it), what didn’t (change it) and what you want next year to look like in concrete terms.
The intake asks what went well and what didn’t this year, which areas to focus on, what evidence you’ve collected and, if you want, pastes a goal excerpt worth discussing. The output balances retrospective review with forward planning.
